SUMMARY:
The Program Manager owns execution, underwriting discipline, broker strategy, and carrier alignment for the BSP CAT Property Program. The role leads the underwriting team and partners with operations, data, carriers, and executive leadership to drive profitable growth, consistency, and execution speed.
The Program Manager develops underwriting talent, manages guidelines and authority, improves efficiency through tooling and automation, and ensures BSP delivers a best-in-class broker experience through fast, clear, disciplined execution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Lead the day-to-day execution and operational performance of the BSP CAT Property Program.
- Manage underwriting workflow, prioritization, service standards, and production oversight, and build scalable workflows that improve speed and consistency.
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, referral protocols, authority structures, training documentation, and occupancy examples.
- Train, mentor, and develop underwriters through structured coaching, live deal review, and progressive authority expansion.
- Monitor underwriting performance metrics including submission flow, quote-to-bind ratios, response times, authority utilization, and portfolio performance.
- Maintain alignment with carrier and reinsurance partners on appetite, performance, reporting, and authority.
- Prepare and deliver recurring underwriting and portfolio performance reporting to executive leadership and carrier partners.
- Drive broker strategy — identify high-performing trading partners, improve submission quality, and support distribution growth.
- Collaborate with data and operations teams to improve automation, reporting, CRM workflows, underwriting tooling, and operational efficiency.
- Support underwriting decisions on complex or escalated accounts.
- Review market trends, competitive conditions, and portfolio performance to help shape underwriting strategy.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and performance management of underwriting staff.
- Represent BSP in meetings with brokers, carriers, reinsurers, and strategic partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of E&S property underwriting practices, underwriting guidelines, and delegated authority programs.
- Ability to evaluate property risks, interpret underwriting data, and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Strong understanding of underwriting workflow management, portfolio management, and operational processes.
- Ability to lead and develop underwriting staff through coaching, accountability, and structured training.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills with brokers, carriers, reinsurers, and executive leadership.
- Experience working with CRM systems, underwriting platforms, reporting tools, and workflow automation initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong attention to detail and execution quality.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly supervises underwriting personnel within the BSP CAT Property Program.
- Responsible for employee coaching, training, development, workflow management, and performance accountability.
- Participates in hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions in coordination with leadership and Human Resources.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Minimum 5–10 years of commercial property underwriting or E&S insurance experience preferred.
- Prior leadership, program management, or underwriting team management experience preferred.
- Experience working within MGA, wholesale, binding authority, or delegated underwriting environments strongly preferred.
- Experience managing broker relationships and carrier partnerships preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Property & Casualty Insurance License preferred.
- CPCU, AU, ARM, or other insurance designations preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $182,000 to $228,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
