VP, Broking Team Lead – Commercial Insurance (Hybrid – NY or MA)

Summary:

Responsible for overseeing the team responsible for the brokering and placement of new and renewal business from initial market selection through policy delivery to the client, including all aspects of portfolio management. The Broking Team Leader largely serves in a leadership capacity but will also provide direct involvement and support on the largest and most complex placements. 

This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of any of the following office locations: New York City, Albany, Rochester, Amherst, White Plains (NY), or Boston, MA.

To support hybrid/remote work, candidates must have access to a reliable, confidential, and interruption-free workspace, along with a stable high-speed internet connection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the highest level of integrity, ethical behavior, and professionalism; leads by example
  • Define success and direct team broking activity to achieve the optimal outcomes for clients/prospects; ensure a go-to-market strategy is in place for each broking engagement
  • Accountable for achieving portfolio and team KPI’s including growth, retention, and margin objectives.
  • Ensure the team’s development of creative solutions at the client level to effectively address difficult placement scenarios; own the process and drive outcomes to enhance customer satisfaction around key deliverables; challenge conventions, value diverse and critical thought, and objectively evaluate alternative paths to success
  • Lead the sales efforts of the team through the promotion of best practices, achievement of productivity and efficiency gains, and alignment with the organization’s business strategy
  • Cultivate strong, productive, trustful, and resilient multi-level relationships with carrier and wholesale partners and NFP local office teams
  • Demonstrate exceptional negotiation skills – possess an awareness of different personality types and ability to adjust approach to effectively drive the optimal outcome; capable of interacting with all audiences within client, carrier, wholesale, vendor, and specialty organizations; effectively lead team members in difficult scenarios and collaborates effectively with Chief Broking Officer
  • Ensure team members are executing on NFP’s broking strategies, including strategic carriers, panels, and preferred wholesaler utilization
  • Provide leadership oversight and ensure the accuracy of client and policy information in NFP’s Epic agency management system
  • Effectively set expectations and ensure the execution of client engagement and stewardship across the portfolio that supports client institutionalization, while ensuring that internal service teams and carrier partners engage in a manner that reinforces a value-based relationship
  • Engage Subject Matter Experts to support client business development and retention
  • Support the recruitment and acquisition of talent that aligns with current and future organizational requirements; support the development of high-potential talent utilizing annual development planning, providing challenging assignments, project work, mentoring, coaching, and exposure to a variety of individuals and teams
  • Set challenging and achievable team and individual objectives. Demonstrate effective and motivational performance management techniques to develop the team; sets professional standards and core competencies, while ensuring the team is trained and supported to achieve and exceed those standards
  • Ensure adherence to compliance requirements
  • Ensure team continues to develop and maintain thorough knowledge of insurance marketplace, products, and services

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • Significant business insight in operational management of developing and mentoring a team; proven track record of achieving KPIs
  • Strong leadership and portfolio management expertise, with a deep understanding of broker operations and financial fundamentals
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation abilities, adaptable to diverse personalities and situations
  • Highly organized and strategic, skilled at guiding teams through shifting priorities and complex workloads
  • Self-motivated and determined with positive attitude and sense of urgency
  • Strong attention to detail with strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Proven technical competency and creativity demonstrating excellence in developing and delivering innovative property and casualty solutions
  • Confident, poised and interactive – when client-facing communicates effectively, demonstrates emotional intelligence, and understands how to tailor responses in a variety of dynamic situations
  • Experience with Epic (agency management system) a plus

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; Master’s degree a plus
  • Minimum ten years insurance experience
  • Prior team leadership experience preferred
  • Broad exposure to a variety of lines of insurance products 

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

  • P&C License required
  • Achieved one or more advanced industry designation(s) (e.g. CPCU, CIC, ARM) preferred

The base salary range for this position is $132,000 – $190,00. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. The actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
