Position Overview:

The AVP of Drug Policy and Strategy serves as a pharmacy benefit thought leader for Valued Pharmacy Services (VPS). This leadership position will be responsible for supporting cross-functional teams throughout the organization including consulting, underwriting, contracting, and sales. This position will also play an advisory role with our broker partners, by delivering innovative and industry leading insights into changing drug policy, PBM strategy, emerging trends, and best practices. Additionally, they will lead training and development efforts to educate internal staff, collaborate with leadership to help optimize the business for scale and future growth, and execute on the company mission of delivering increased value to our clients. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience in pharmacy benefit consulting, contracting, and underwriting. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and will be recognized in the industry as a subject matter expert representing VPS with key stakeholder.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

1. Develop and maintain effective working relationships in a strategic liaison role between internal and external partners, such as PBMs, brokers, clients, prospects, and other stakeholders.
2. Communicate with internal and external partners on industry insights, drug policy, and other emerging trends in pharmacy benefits.
3. Proficiently know the VPS and PBM marketplace, including carrier contracts and services, as well as carrier underwriting requirements.
4. Facilitate RFP requests including a deep understanding of PBM pricing, requirements, and underwriting.
5. Participate in coalition level contract negotiations to optimize value for downstream clients and maximize VPS revenue.
6. Communicate with NFP Corp legal team to ensure alignment with state and federal drug policies represented in VPS contracts and lead contract redline initiatives.
7. Represent company as a pharmacy benefit subject matter expert at conferences which may include public speaking events
8. Prepare studies and reports deemed necessary by leadership.
9. Execute on the company mission of delivering increased value to clients while meeting company financial goals.
10. Participate in seminars and classes for continuing education to keep industry skills and knowledge current.
11. Identify areas for process improvement and contribute to the implementation of enhancements.
12. Lead training efforts with staff and assist with the development of job aids, training materials, etc.
13. Present a positive image of self and of VPS, in and out of the office, to fellow employees, clients, providers, and the community.
14. Conduct special projects at the request of leadership.

Minimum Requirements for Education, Experience, and Certifications/Licenses:

• Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred (MBA, PharmD, RPh).
• Prefer 8+ years’ experience in PBM industry.

1. High degree of professionalism.
2. Ability to interpret industry policies and contract documents, proposals, and other documentation.
3. Strong interpersonal and relationship skills.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills and command of the English language
5. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as percentages, adding, subtracting, multiplying and division to required tasks.
6. High degree of critical thinking, organizational and decision-making skills.
7. High degree of initiative and passion to succeed.
8. Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
9. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet objectives and deadlines established, often with short turnaround times.
10. Ability to maintain positive and beneficial relationships with numerous internal departments, and external stakeholders.
11. Proficient in MS Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
12. Ability to comply with company confidentiality requirements as well as with HIPAA and other applicable government regulations.

Travel:
This position requires travel 10-20% of the time, with occasional overnight trips.

The base salary range for this position is $115,000– $160,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
