Summary:

We are looking for a Paralegal / Legal Research Assistant to join our Benefits Compliance team and provide legal support for various benefits compliance projects, research, publications/white papers, and documents. This position will work closely with the Vice President, Benefits Compliance and other Benefits Compliance team members to ensure the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of our deliverables. This position will support the Benefits Compliance Team with researching, tracking, and monitoring federal and state law developments relating to group health plan compliance, using state insurance compliance websites, Westlaw, Checkpoint, and other legal research tools. This position will assist in compiling updates and monitoring developments to keep our publications (including our bi-weekly Compliance Corner newsletter, Employer Guides, and 50-state surveys) recent and fresh.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the Benefits Compliance team with research, analysis, and drafting of benefits compliance newsletters, publications/white papers, and other projects.
  • Review and update benefits compliance publications, spreadsheets, and other documents to ensure they are current, accurate, and complete.
  • Maintain and organize benefits compliance files, records, and databases.
  • Monitor and track benefits compliance deadlines, filings, and notices.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal parties, including the Benefits Compliance attorneys and compliance specialists, account teams, and consultants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Benefits Compliance.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Paralegal certificate from an accredited program or equivalent educational experience.
  • 3-5 years of paralegal experience in a corporate or law firm setting, preferably with a focus on benefits compliance.
  • Knowledge of ERISA, IRC, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, HSA, FSAs, and HRAs, and other federal and state laws and regulations related to employee benefits.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal research tools (including Thompson Reuters Checkpoint, Westlaw, or equivalent).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

The base salary range for this position is $70,000 – $100,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
