Summary: The Sr. Staff Accountant (Tax) will work with clients to produce tax return documents that comply with tax laws and regulations; consult with clients to create financial plans to assist them in meeting desired financial goals.  May train and mentor staff accountants. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for general tax preparation ability (software input, basic returns & projections)
  • Review compiled financial statements and propose meaningful adjustments
  • Work with the Client Service team on clients’ day-to-day needs (refinance applications, etc.)
  • Comfortable taking a lead role in addressing various accounting and tax related tasks and proposing resolutions to issues
  • Independently prepare and complete various cash management and investment reports 
  • May train and mentor entry level accountants, staff accountants and bookkeepers
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to colleagues, including staff members supervised
  • Review the work prepared by staff accountants
  • Perceive and understand the client’s needs and communicate with the client, client team, and third parties (attorney, investment advisor, etc.) to meet those needs
  • Begin to take ownership of client relationships and the management of their associated tasks
  • Involved in the firm’s training and continuing education (propose and deliver training ideas)
  • Generates innovative ideas, challenges the status quo, embraces change
  • Involved in various aspects of the firm’s work to gain knowledge in new areas
  • Adapt working style to achieve target hours on assigned tasks (raise unexpected issues on a timely basis, identify alternatives to save time on tasks, etc.)
  • Begin to identify opportunities to delegate work
  • Maintain knowledge regarding tax laws, tax software & technology and accounting standards.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledgeable of and experience in tax concepts: complex returns (multi-state, elections, etc.), complex tax matters, IRS exams
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle several projects/clients simultaneously
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficiency with MS Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with CCH Access, CCH Intelliconnect, PDF Flyer or XCM preferred
  • Working toward passing the California CPA exam
  • Dedicated work ethic with a commitment to client service excellence
  • Experience working in a team environment

 

Education and/or Experience: 

  • 3-5 years of experience in Business Management or related industry
  • Strong accounting knowledge
  • Tax background
  • Bachelors’ degree

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

Certified Public Accountant preferred

 

What We Offer:

We’re proud to offer a competitive salary, PTO & paid holidays and 401(k) with match and more. The base salary range for this position is $94,000 to $126,000.   The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
