About the Role
At NFP, the brokers in our Henry Equestrian Division provide clients with expert insurance coverage. Injuries, illness and euthanasia are all things that will break any horse owner’s heart and insurance can help to make sure it doesn’t break the bank as well. With over 30 years of experience and a team of equestrians as our brokers & underwriters, we help clients navigate the process from start to finish and make sure that they end up with a policy that has been custom-tailored to their needs. From trail buddies to investment sales horses and everything in between, Henry Equestrian has one of the most comprehensive portfolios available for horse owners.
We’re looking for a horse enthusiast to join our team as a Lloyds Underwriter for the Henry Equestrian Division. The UW will provide quotes for our Equine products (Mortality & Liability) while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to provide fair and competitive quotes that fit the client’s needs. The UW will also oversee and review claims for the Lloyds market to ensure that the risks submitted by the claims adjuster fit within the program.
What You’ll Do
- Qualify and underwrite new and renewal Equine Insurance accounts through understanding the needs and risk characteristics of the customer while ensuring both top-line growth and bottom-line profitability
- Analyze risks to identify fair and sensible solutions that fit within the program guidelines
- Help identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies, applying remediation strategies as appropriate
- Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims
- Manage the underwriting workflow from quote to policy issuance
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes
What You Bring
- Typically, more than 3-5 years of professional experience within the insurance industry preferably with knowledge property underwriting
- Solid understanding of Property underwriting is preferred
- Knowledge of Lloyd’s underwriting practices is an asset
- Proven success in providing a high level of customer service in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to analyze and convey summaries of complex issues; recognize alternative approaches and develop action plans, both orally and in written form
- Remarkable collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills
- Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with brokers, clients and internal partners
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and sensible judgement
- Exceptional problem-solving, decision making and analytical skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Professional designation such as CIP is an asset
